When I travel, I love experiencing local food and drinks that I can add to my everyday life. There’s nothing like the nostalgic sights and smells of a favorite trip: the humid, salty air of Turks and Caicos, the collage of foods painting the London fog with deliciousness, freshly cut flowers in a small shop near my apartment in Paris and so much more.

I’m back to work after my second wedding anniversary trip with my husband. We traveled to some of the highest elevations in West Virginia and explored the small towns and attractions around us. Naturally, that involved food.

During our trip, I had a lavender latte at Tip Top Coffee. Lavender is one of my favorite smells (and tastes) on earth. In fact, more often than not, the Hourglass Media headquarters smell like a French lavender field. It’s more than just a pleasant aroma, however. Lavender use has many perks, and we take full advantage here #behindthehourglass!

Lavender helps with the following:

  • Reducing anxiety and stress

  • Lessening the effects of migraines

  • Promoting brain health

  • Boosting your mood

  • Fights itchiness and burns (essential oil)

  • And more!

Below is my own rendition of an Iced Lavender Vanilla Latte. Enjoy this on a busy day at the office or when you’re relaxing in your home garden. No matter the situation, add a lavender boost to your favorite caffeinated beverage. After all, communicators need their caffeine -- am I right?

Recipe: Iced Lavender Vanilla Lattes

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons lavender syrup, like this one

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 6 ounces milk cow’s, almond, coconut, etc

  • 2 shots espresso

  • fresh lavender sprig for garnish

Instructions:

Fill a large glass with ice -- the more vintage the better! Add the lavender syrup, vanilla extract and milk of your choice and stir together well. Pour in the espresso shots and stir. Garnish with a sprig of fresh lavender if you have it. Serve ASAP!

If you’re interested in making your own lavender syrup, here’s a simple recipe on Pinterest.
