What I Learned During My College Experience

By Abbey Vidrine

Throughout all the stressful days and what felt like endless nights, the Marshall University class of 2020 finally made it! Although we may not be able to walk across the stage with our classmates, it is still a time of celebration and reflection!

So as my time as a Public Relations student at Marshall University quickly comes to an end, I wanted to use one of my last blog posts as an intern at Hourglass Media to reflect on my experiences as a student.

1. I felt like giving up, A LOT

Some days I felt like graduation would never come. The world was definitely crashing down on me, or at least that’s what I thought was happening. With the pressure of school, working, and a personal life, I had my moments of “I’m done with school.” But, oh how happy I am that I pushed through! Moral of the story, there are so many struggling college students out there. If you are a friend or family member of one, check up on them. They can always use your help because I know I am not the only student who has felt this way. The journey was hard, but it was most certainly worth the hike!

2. I wouldn’t change a thing

Aside from all of the stressful school work and demanding classes, I made some of the best memories with great friends and colleagues. I’ve made unforgettable connections and had incredible networking opportunities. I was able to secure two internships, join clubs, and go on multiple trips to learn more about my major. College allowed me to have those experiences, and I will be forever grateful for them! I have gained important life skills, learned lessons, and grown as a person, and with those aspects alone, I wouldn’t change anything about my college experience!

3. Life after college

Yeah, everyone can’t wait until graduation day.... until it actually comes. Here it is! Right in front of me and I’m not sure how to feel about it anymore. Being a college student for the last 4 years and then being pushed off into the world is definitely a culture shock. It’s like, okay, what do I do now? The college demands you had to meet before are no longer there. So, every day I think to myself, what am I forgetting to do today or what did I forget to turn in? I’m here to remind you that those feeling are okay! It takes time to readjust to this new life.

College was a learning experience, and I know that journey will only continue! It was a great experience, and I am excited to see where my experiences take me!
