By Kaylin R. Staten

Unveiling the heart of stories is our way of life at Hourglass Media. It’s more than just a mission statement and a statement of being. We live and breathe stories, whether it’s reading the latest strategies in an industry publication or sitting with a client and brainstorming new messaging.

That is what led me to craft my first signature course, “Telling Stories Through A Holistic Public Relations Approach.” In this course, students will learn how to confidently create, plan, execute and evaluate their stories through tried-and-true public relations practices.

At Hourglass Media, we believe everyone has a story. We also believe that anyone has the capability to tell stories with pride, grace and authenticity.

But... The bottom line is: All of us are busy with our professional and personal lives. Many of us have exponential goals and not enough time in the day to chase after them. That’s where this course comes in. We aim to give you practical and tangible knowledge to arm yourself with the most impactful way to tell your PR story like a pro -- with your time constraints and other interests in mind.

This course is taught by an experienced APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) professional. "The Accredited in Public Relations (APR) credential is a mark of distinction for public relations professionals who demonstrate their commitment to the profession and to its ethical practice, and who are selected based on broad knowledge, strategic perspective and sound professional judgment." - Universal Accreditation Board

By the end of this course (in 50 short lectures), you will gain confidence in your abilities and may even decide to study certain components further. This course's goal is to teach you PR principles for immediate application into business and communications goals/objectives.

Our four attainable objectives to reach that goal are:

  • OBJECTIVE 1: To find your communications purpose, narrative and more.

  • OBJECTIVE 2: To learn RPIE by the end of the course so you can effectively Research, Plan, Implement and Evaluate your programs/campaigns.

  • OBJECTIVE 3: To put together your own communications plan and toolkit that you can use right away.

  • OBJECTIVE 4: To give students practical exercises, resources, tools and other information to reach understanding and achieve tangible results and streamlined processes.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who wants to craft a communications strategy that actually shows results at the beginner level. You could be an entrepreneur, nonprofit communicator, future influencer, someone aiming to climb the corporate ladder, anyone. The RPIE process can be applied to any communications effort you face. (Please note: This course isn't for someone at the intermediate and expert levels of communications fields.)
